WORKSHOP- SPRING 2024 EUROPEAN VALUES, MIGRATIONS AND CONFLICTS — Jean Monnet Module “Identity and European Values in the External Borders” (EUBALMED)
The second edition of the Jean Monnet Module “IDENTITY AND EUROPEAN VALUES IN THE EXTERNAL BORDERS. FROM THE BALTIC TO THE MEDITERRANEAN” for the year 2024 focuses on the most current aspects of EUROPEAN VALUES, MIGRATIONS AND CONFLICTS. A comparative analysis of migration and the projection of European values in the Central Mediterranean and the Eastern route will be addressed; as well as the challenges to European values and international law posed by the current situation of crisis in Gaza and Ukraine. This 1st Workshop will address how European values are promoted at the external borders in situations of migratory crises and armed conflicts.

The MODULE consists of a 60-hour course from April to December at the Faculty of Law of the University of Cadiz in Jerez (Cádiz). This course will consist of two presential WORKSHOPS of 20 hours each and an International SEMINAR. Total: 60 hours (40 classroom hours, 20 hours of individual work by the student).
CERTIFICATES OF ATTENDANCE – A global certificate of attendance and achievement of the Jean Monnet EUBALMED MODULE will be issued in English at the end of the course for 60 hours (80% assistance to the sessions is required).
Given the current international crisis, academic cooperation to promote European values and respect for fundamental rights is more necessary than ever. This is why the Jean Monnet Module “IDENTITY AND EUROPEAN VALUES IN THE EXTERNAL BORDERS” aims to constitute a common training and research space to promote the comparative and common perspective of identity and values in Europe and beyond, in the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy with Eastern and Southern Europe.
The main objectives of this European Project are:
- To contribute to the education of both the University of Cadiz and the participating Universities’ students, as well as other partner Universities and civil society in general, in European Union studies. Specifically, deepening the Identity and Values of Europe both inside and outside Europe, with an overall perspective of the European Neighbourhood in the East and South of the EU.
- Promoting dialogue, research and joint dissemination on the comparative and common perspective on European Identity and Values inside and outside the European Union, in the European Neighbourhood Policy, Russia and the Mediterranean. Analysis and understanding of the Union’s Interaction with the European Neighbourhood, Russia and the Mediterranean, in the aspect of Values promoted by the EU.
- Establish permanent connections with Centres of Excellence, Jean Monnet Chairs and European Studies Units in Spain, Russia, Turkey and Tunisia.
