La Comisión Europea ha concedido para el periodo 2017-2020 el Centro de Excelencia Jean Monnet Center of Excellence Inmigración y Derechos Humanos en las Fronteras Exteriores Europeas – Migration and Human Rights in Europe´s External Borders al Área de Derecho Internacional Público y Relaciones Internacionales.
El Centro, dirigido por el Catedrático de la Universidad de Cádiz Dr. Alejandro del Valle Gálvez, es uno de los quince Centros de Excelencia concedidos a nivel mundial por la Unión Europea. Pretende ser un Centro europeo y transnacional de formación, investigación y divulgación sobre temáticas de Inmigración, Fronteras y Derechos Humanos, con intensa proyección en el área fronteriza propia de la Universidad de Cádiz.
Tiene su sede en el Instituto Universitario de Investigación para el Desarrollo Social y Sostenible (INDESS) del Campus de Jerez y está también integrado en el Campus de Excelencia Internacional del Mar (CEIMAR).
El Centro de Excelencia desarrollará actividades en los diversos Campus de la Universidad de Cádiz, así como en la Universidad Abdelmalek-Essaadi de Tanger-Tetuán, y actuaciones de divulgación en centros educativos de Secundaria y Bachillerato en la provincia de Cádiz. Contará con la participación de las Aulas Universitarias de la Universidad de Cádiz, de FUECA, de la Fundación Campus Tecnológico Bahía de Algeciras, y los Europa-Direct de San Fernando y Algeciras.

The European Commission granted a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence to the University of Cadiz "IMMIGRATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPE'S EXTERNAL BORDERS”. THE BILINGUAL MASTER OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND MIGRATION WILL BEGIN IN 2018-19
The International and European Law Department of the Cadiz University has received a grant for the period 2017-2020 to establish a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in "IMMIGRATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPEAN EXTERNAL BORDERS- INMIGRACIÓN Y DERECHOS HUMANOS EN LAS FRONTERAS EXTERIORES EUROPEAS”. The Centre is directed by Professor Alejandro Del Valle Galvez and will be one of the fifteen designated by the European Commission worldwide.
The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence "IMMIGRATION AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPE'S EXTERNAL BORDERS" objective is to be a European and trans-national center for training, research and dissemination of scientific knowledge on Immigration issues, Borders and Human Rights, with a close attention paid to the geographical context of the University of Cadiz. The Center will be based at the University Institute of Research for Social and Sustainable Development - Instituto Universitario de Investigación para el Desarrollo Social y Sostenible (INDESS), located in the campus of Jerez and will also be incorporated in the International Campus of Excellence in Marine Science (CEIMAR).
The Center of Excellence will develop its activities in the different campuses of the University of Cadiz, as well as in the University Abdelmalek-Essaadi of Tangier-Tétouan. It will also carry out divulgation activities in Secondary and High School educational centers in the province of Cadiz. The University-Business Foundation of the province of Cadiz (FUECA), the Campus Tecnológico Foundation of the Bay of Algeciras, and the Europe-Direct Office of San Fernando and Algeciras will collaborate in these activities.
The main activity to be developed by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence will be the organization and implementation of the Bilingual Master in International and European Studies - International Relations, EU, Immigration and Human Rights (Máster bilingüe en Estudios Internacionales y Europeos - Relaciones Internacionales, UE, Inmigración y Derechos humanos), during the academic year2018/2019.
With the granting of the Jean Monnet Center of Excellence, the work of the Public International Law and International Relations Department of the University of Cadiz regarding research and training in the field of European integration is acknowledged and prized. The International and European Law team has already obtained four consecutive competitive grants from the Research, Development and Innovation national programme (2005-2018), a Jean Monnet Chair in "Migration and Borders"" and two Jean Monnet Modules; one on the "European External Action" and the other on "Immigration and Human Rights". The International Law Department edits and publishes two international electronic journals: Paix et Sécurité Internationales (in collaboration with the University Abedelmalek-Essaadi of Tangier-Tetouan) and the Gibraltar Reports.
The new Center of Excellence converts the University of Cadiz into a centre of reference in the field of Migration, Borders and Human Rights at the international and European level.
