Dear students and colleagues,

We would like to invite you to take part in the course “UKRAINE, PALESTINE AND WESTERN SAHARA: THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN TIMES OF CRISIS” organized by the Department of Public International Law of the University of Cadiz as part of the 2026 International Summer School of the University of Cadiz (Spain).

The course will be held in the Campus of Cadiz from September 14 to September 18, 2026.

It aims to provide in-depth knowledge of environmental protection in times of peace and armed conflict as governed by the rules and doctrine of several key branches of Public International Law, namely: International Environmental Law, International Humanitarian Law, the Law of the Sea, and EU Environmental Law. The course combines theoretical instruction with practical analysis through case study activities focused on the practice of international and national courts, with particular attention to the current situations in Ukraine, Palestine, and Western Sahara, which have significant implications for the international system.

The course offers a comprehensive legal analysis of these situations and provides a solid foundation for assessing the relevant events. It will be of interest to anyone who follows recent developments in international relations and seeks to understand them. The course also aims to improve participants’ professional Legal English skills.

It includes 30 hours of in-person instruction and 10 hours dedicated to the preparation of an essay. The activity is allocated 1 ECTS credit. Upon successful completion the course, participants will receive a certificate of attendance and completion. Academic activities will be complemented by cultural events organized by the University of Cadiz.

We welcome applications from law students at all levels, academics and legal professionals. It is open to students and professionals from other fields for whom the knowledge of international law is relevant.
